The article “Students Create Music From Nature Data” is an article about Michigan Tech students using their collected data from Isle Royale and creating music with the sounds. During a science display at the college, the student’s project and data was displayed by a poster. The students wanted to get people involved with the data and project they were a part of and a poster was not sufficing.
The students decided to take the sounds from the island and create a song/music to go along with it. There are three elements to the song. Nature, the wolves, and the moose. You can hear the difference in weather, the moose noises, and the populations of wolves flourishing and dying. The song can be controlled by the listener. The listener can adjust the sounds of nature within the song. The concept of student-centered learning was a complete success for the students. They are collecting data from a remote island. The students are completely active in this process, which creates a love for the project inside of them. The students took the responsibility to research and come up with a plan, and ultimately create the song. If the students were forced to do this project and create the music, the outcome and determination would most likely be dramatically lowered.
