The article "Genius Hour" summarizes that genius hour allows students to push themselves into a topic that interests them. The freedom of allowing students to choose what they want to learn about increases their self-driven integrity. Students brainstorm in order to impact their topics, instead of being told what to do. The article says that the toughest part was getting student's to come up with an idea, "Schools just haven't trained them to think that way, teachers said." Genius hour is very important because it is a hour for students to learn about themselves. The article also says that education is very limited on freedom, genius hour allows a bit of freedom to seep through.
As I read the article "Genius Hour" I realized how truly blessed I am to be able to participate. In a standard day in school I am told what to do. So I follow the steps by temporarily memorizing information. I usually am never given the opportunity to think for myself and to be creative. Through the article I have learned that anything is possible with genius hour. Not every student has the opportunity to participate in this hour, so I am going to take full advantage of this opportunity. What I read in the article motivated me to take this hour more seriously. In fact it is not just "a hour" it is "my hour". So what am I going to do with "my hour"? I am going to approach my genius hour project with an eye of a tiger, and not stop until I have fulfilled my goals.
